Love + (Under)Water
In case you missed the wedding recap, we had found the best wedding photographers ever, Love and Water, by sheer happenstance. Ironically, a few weeks before getting engaged, I couldn’t sleep one night and was randomly scrolling through Instagram (isn’t that what everyone does when they can’t sleep?) I came across a stunning image of a couple’s beach wedding at sunset– basically my palm-tree-ocean-dream-come-true. I instantly found myself falling down the rabbit hole and scrolled through their entire feed, falling in love with their beautiful style and lighting and was completely hooked. Little did I know that would be the best late-night find ever!
Fast forward to when my husband and I got engaged and decided to have an intimate destination wedding in Hawaii. With everything almost figured out except the photographer, I remembered these gorgeous photos and showed Rob again. He loved their images as much as I did and I didn’t even have to ask if he wanted to do an underwater shoot– he was already on board! We looked up their location (without high hopes that they would be in the same location) and I almost cried out of sheer happiness that they were also on Maui… and available! We booked them immediately for our wedding and an underwater photoshoot!
A couple days after Love and Water photographed our wedding (and we fell in love with our sneak peek photos!), we met Adam at the marina early in the morning for our underwater photo session. I couldn’t have been more excited for this– it was always on my beach wedding wish list and it was finally happening! I mean, you only wear your wedding dress for a few hours one day and it was the perfect adventure to kick off our vows.
We boarded the Pacific Whale Foundation’s boat for a fun day of snorkeling and photos with plenty of sun and salt water. Adam made sure we were comfortable in the water and kept remarking how gorgeous the West Maui mountains were– a stunning green against the blue ocean, apparently a rare sight for the usual brown mountainsides.
We jumped in and began diving underwater on Adam’s command, trying to get the hang of it as quickly as possible– thank goodness there were floaties for in-between takes!
Staying afloat was definitely a little tricky at first! Treading water with a wedding dress on isn’t the most conducive and I immediately felt like my dress was trying to drown me! A few tricks later, I got the hang of it and we were on our way…. to holding our breath. And, let’s just say we all know Rob’s lung capacity is much better than mine, but once I found some turtles to chase, I was off and swimming! We finished off the day snorkeling and exploring before heading back to the marina with incredible memories and plenty of tan lines and laughs. We had an absolutely amazing day and couldn’t be happier with our experience and stunning images– some of our favorites are below!
We loved working with Love and Water and would recommend them to anyone! So if you’re in Maui (or the other Hawaiian islands) and happen to be in need of an amazing photoshoot by some of the sweetest and most talented people you’ll ever meet, reach out to them for unforgettable memories! We’re so thankful we did!
xo,
L+R
P.S. If you’re curious about taking the plunge (pun intended) and not wanting to ruin your dress, mine is perfectly fine! I rinsed it out really well with fresh water once we were done and hung it up in our shower suite to dry. With all the beading and jewels still intact, it’s looks just as gorgeous as it did during the ceremony!
